This is a great way to teach children about cell structure. You use the analogy that a cell is a factory. This project lends itself really well to small groups. As an added bonus the cell model is made out of recycled material. You will need an old box, scissors, glue, sharpie markers, and multiple cat food cans. To create the frame work of your cell you simple cut large windows in all four sides of the box. Children then create their cell factory. It’s amazing how imaginative kids can get when constructing their cell model. My son spent a lot of time and thought creating his assembly line. Maybe we need to be thinking about something in manufacturing for him as a future career.
