With out a doubt our visit to Grassy Waters to “swamp tromp” has been one of my very favorite field trips. If you are able to make it to Palm Beach County this is a very worthwhile activity. The tour is about two hours long and such an amazing adventure. Our guide Sam taught us so many things it would be impossible to name them all! We learned what supplies were best to take when hiking in the woods. Once we embarked on our journey in knee deep water through the swamp we learned about birds, Florida history, indigenous mammals, plants and their uses, which plants you could eat and drink if lost in the woods (my daughter is sucking on the bulb of saw-grass which contains safe water), the Seminole Indians, orienteering, Florida geography, the list goes on and on! The cost for this amazing experience is five dollars a person with a ten person minimum. The park is one of the most professional and organized outfits I have dealt with. Before your trip they will e-mail you a list of all the items you need to bring.
