In the summer my family convenes at my parent’s home in Maine. There is a wonderful book store that I look forward to visiting each and every year. The kids and I read “Lizzy Bright and the Buckminster Boy” by Gary Schmidt at the recommendation of the friendly staff at BookStacks.
We loved this book. It is the tale of an unfortunate event that occurred to a colony of people living on Malanga Island in Maine. Frequently, we associate segregation and racism with the south. This book serves as an excellent reminder that racism was in the north as well.
