Kids In the Kitchen: Fall Popcorn

fall popcornAs I mentioned yesterday we made this delicious popcorn for family movie night.  It was so good! Plus, the kids had fun making popcorn in a pan vs. in the microwave. It was fun for them to actually see the kernels pop.

DSC_0792Heat 3 tablespoons canola oil in a dutch oven at medium high heat. Place 3-4 kernels in the oil.

DSC_0797I used these kernels which I purchased at Whole Foods.

DSC_0793When the several test  kernels pop remove them with a slotted spoon and add 1/3 cup of kernels. Place the lid on the pan and remove from heat for 30 seconds. Then, return the pan to the heat and remove when there is very little to no popping.  Pour popcorn in a large bowl.  In a double broiler melt 4 tablespoons of butter and one bag of white chocolate chips. Once white chocolate and butter are completely melted add 1/2 cup powdered sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon, and 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg. Toss the chocolate mixture with the popped popcorn.
