Book Review

i am malala

Recently, my daughter and I were faced with a two day car ride.  We immediately began discussing potential audio books.  After much discussion we chose the book, “I Am Malala” by Malala Yousafzai.  We both thoroughly enjoyed this memoir.  The book recounts Malala’s life giving the reader a historical perspective of how the Taliban came to power in Pakistan.  The greatest “takeaways” from this book for us were: how fortunate we are to have access to education, live in a free country, and live day to day without fear of harm.  My daughter is ten and I thought it was a good minimum age for the book.  We regularly paused the audio to discuss points brought up in the book and to reflect on Yousafzai’s experiences.  This young lady is an inspiration for girls and women. It it is a shining example of how each one of us can stand up for what we believe in and make a difference in the world.
