A beautiful ancient Mayan archaeological sight resides in Tulum. Tulum is a small coastal town on the Mayan Riviera. The vistas from the ruins are completely breathtaking. They stand poised on a cliff with the beautiful blue ocean as a backdrop. After our impressive guide at Chichen Itza we once again opted to hire a tour guide to show us the ruins at Tulum. The going rate was around sixty dollars. Tulum’s tour guides do not seem to be as well organized as the guides at Chichen Itza. They do not have technological aids and are not as thorough as the Chichen Itza guides. With that said they are still valuable and worth hiring. The day we visited it was very hot. Having someone who could quickly take us from one building to the next and efficiently tell us the significance of each building and point out interesting details was great. When my kids are hot and uncomfortable I have found they have little patience for me trying to thumb through a guide book trying to make heads or tails of each building. Once again, water, sunscreen, snacks and a hat are all musts if you are visiting the ruins at Tulum.
