Veni Vidi Vici!

My family was very skeptical when I began planning a road trip to South Carolina to see a Roman Legion reenactment.   After an afternoon at the Roman encampment we all agreed it was amazing!  The people who put together these reenactments have a passion and a love for this time in history.  They are eager to share and educate their spectators.  They also pride themselves on authenticity. One legionary told me with great pride how he had treated the skins and made his tent exactly how they would have in ancient Rome. My husband and I were fascinated by the gentleman who shared with us an actual Roman Legion medical kit. He went into great detail explaining how medicine was practiced during this time and the use of each tool. My son loved the life size replica of the catapult. While gladiatorial pursuits seemed somewhat barbaric, we watched the mock battles with great interest and cheered for the Retiarius. I think as Floridians we felt the need to cheer for our fellow ocean folk.  If you have the ability, and there is a Roman Legion reenactment in your vicinity I would highly recommend going. It was a wonderful memory for us.  My children frequently make reference to knowledge they gained from this very memorable field trip.
